Why I’ll Never Be Afraid of a White Sofa Again!

Have you ever thought about why so many Instagram posts look amazing? After removing the incredible architecture, professional photography, natural light, and beautiful styling, simply put, it’s almost always all about the whitish sofas. Fear no more, you can put aside your sofa envy to join the performance club buyers that have swept our country with a wash of white fabric crispness.

I have to admit, I was skeptical when Crypton introduced its widely known performance fabric line. At first, I only recommended mid tone fabric colors to my clients with out the real life proof that their fabrics can truly repel life’s messiest moments. After most recently witnessing live demo’s at this past HPMKT, a prior 1-1 opportunity to speak to the VP directly in my Design Pop series and my own white sofa purchases I can confidently support Crypton’s “It’s Like Magic” claim to live life without fear. So let’s debunk the disbeliefs and see why all these esteemed upholstery vendors like Norwalk, Universal, Cisco, and Rowe use and promote Crypton.

COMMON THOUGHT ONE

No Way Can It Really Work

Crypton uses Nanotex, a permanent stain-resistant technology which is not topically applied to the fabric but is an immersion process. This makes cleaning easy and keeps the inherent quality of the fabric soft (not stiff). The permanent silver-ion technology fends off micro-organisms and safeguards against odor-causing bacteria to prolong the life of your textiles. Crypton has passed all tests for stain resistance, water resistance, abrasion, tearing strength, breaking strength, seam slippage, flammability, and resistance to fungal and bacterial growth.

It Must Be Hard to Clean

Most liquids simply roll off of Crypton fabrics, or they can be quickly blotted off the surface with a dry towel or sponge. The spot cleaning method of stain removal can be used for most light to medium stains, such as coffee, red wine, crayon, and ketchup. Be careful to brush lightly since fibers can be broken or matted during the cleaning process.

Before spot cleaning, blot up liquids on the surface with a clean, soft towel and brush off any loose dirt.
Prepare a cleaning solution of 1/4 tsp mild, enzyme detergent, such as Tide®, Woolite® or Dawn® dishwashing liquid, per 1 cup of lukewarm water.
Apply the cleaning solution using a misting spray bottle. Do NOT oversaturate when applying the cleaning solution.
Work the solution into the affected area by lightly scrubbing the area with a sponge or soft bristle brush. Make sure to work from the outside of the stain inward so as not to spread the stain and rinse your sponge or brush frequently.
Allow cleaning solution to soak into the fabric.
Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residues, as residues will attract dirt. Blot excess moisture with a clean, soft towel or sponge.
Repeat steps 3-6 as needed.
Allow fabric to air dry.

Sofa Will Look Dingy in a Year

Crypton repels body oils, urine, blood, ketchup, wine, dirt, and more. While you can spot clean, any light colored upholstered item will start to show wear and tear over time. The good news about Crypton is that you can do an annual extraction and restore your item back to perfection.

Follow these easy extraction steps:

Before extraction cleaning, blot up liquids on the surface with a clean, soft towel and vacuum the upholstery.
Prepare a cleaning solution of 1/4 tsp mild, enzyme detergent, such as Tide®, Woolite® or Dawn® dishwashing liquid, per 1 cup of lukewarm water.
Apply the cleaning solution using a misting spray bottle.
Work the solution into the affected area by lightly scrubbing the area with a sponge or soft bristle brush. Make sure to work from the outside of the stain inward so as not to spread the stain and rinse your sponge or brush frequently.
Allow cleaning solution to soak into the fabric.
Wet-vacuum or blot excess moisture with a clean, soft towel. Follow directions on filling your extracting machine (we recommend the Crypton’s official products) with the proper solution; wet the area with pre-spray, and vacuum up the solution. Be sure to extract the entire surface of the upholstered furniture to achieve uniform cleanliness.
Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residues, as residues will attract dirt.
Repeat steps 3-7 as needed.
Allow fabric to air dry.

It Must Feel Like Cardboard

Crypton is the closest performance fabric to feel like regular fabric. That is what I love about it so much. The hand is soft and cozy. The new cotton boucles just launched are especially yummy! They even have velvets, chenilles and suedes.
